Evidence-based homeopathic treatment with natrum Muriaticum in a case of social anxiety using Social Anxiety Scale for adolescents (SAS-a) along with somatic symptoms

Abstract

Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) is common among adolescents, characterized by intense fear of social situations and often accompanied by distressing somatic symptoms such as palpitations, sweating, and headaches. This case report presents the evidence-based homeopathic management of a 16-year-old female diagnosed with social anxiety, evaluated and monitored using the Social Anxiety Scale for Adolescents (SAS-A). The patient exhibited classic psychological symptoms of social anxiety, including fear of negative evaluation, social avoidance, and distress in new and general social situations, alongside prominent somatic complaints. An individualized homeopathic remedy, Natrum Muriaticum 200C, was selected based on a comprehensive assessment of the patient’s mental and physical symptom totality. Over a six-month period, the patient received carefully supervised homeopathic treatment with regular follow-ups. The SAS-A scores demonstrated a progressive reduction from 70 (indicating severe social anxiety) at baseline to 18 (minimal anxiety) by the end of the treatment, correlating with marked clinical improvement. Somatic symptoms such as palpitations, sweating, and headaches also showed significant resolution. This case underscores the potential role of Natrum Muriaticum in alleviating both psychological and somatic manifestations of social anxiety in adolescents. The use of SAS-A provided objective measurement of treatment efficacy, highlighting the importance of standardized tools in homeopathic practice. While further controlled studies are needed, this report suggests that individualized homeopathy can be a safe and effective adjunct in the management of adolescent social anxiety disorder with somatic features.
