Role of homoeopathy in the management of nasal polyps: A comprehensive clinical and therapeutic review

International Journal of Homoeopathic Sciences · 2026 · Vol. 10(2) · pp. 513–516

Abstract

Nasal polyps are benign, non-neoplastic inflammatory growths arising from the mucosa of the nasal cavity and paranasal sinuses. They are commonly associated with chronic rhinosinusitis and are characterized by persistent inflammation, mucosal edema, and epithelial remodeling. Nasal polyps typically present bilaterally and lead to symptoms such as nasal obstruction, rhinorrhea, postnasal drip, facial pressure, hyposmia or anosmia, and recurrent sinus infections. The exact pathophysiology involves complex interactions between inflammatory mediators, immune dysregulation, and environmental or genetic factors, with eosinophilic inflammation playing a significant role in many cases. Diagnosis is primarily based on clinical evaluation, nasal endoscopy, and imaging studies such as computed tomography of the paranasal sinuses. Management strategies focus on reducing inflammation, relieving symptoms, and preventing recurrence, commonly employing intranasal corticosteroids, systemic therapy in selected cases, and surgical intervention when medical management fails. Despite advances in treatment, nasal polyps remain a chronic condition with a high tendency for recurrence, emphasizing the need for long-term follow-up and comprehensive management. Homoeopathy, based on the principles of individualization and holistic healing, offers a promising complementary approach to managing nephrotic syndrome. This review explores the therapeutic potential of homoeopathic medicines in addressing the disease's underlying pathology and symptomatic manifestations. Homeopathy, with its individualized and holistic approach, aims to restore renal function by addressing the underlying susceptibility of the patient. This article explores the role of homeopathic remedies in managing nephrotic syndrome. which have shown clinical efficacy in reducing proteinuria, controlling edema, and improving overall health. The importance of totality, miasm, and constitutional prescribing is also highlighted. While more research and clinical trials are needed, homeopathy offers a safe and individualized therapeutic option that may enhance patient outcomes and quality of life.
