Regression of uterine fibroid following individualised homoeopathic treatment: A case study

Abstract

Uterine fibroids, or leiomyomas, are the most common benign tumors of the female reproductive tract, predominantly affecting women during their reproductive years. Composed of smooth muscle and fibrous connective tissue, these tumors can be asymptomatic or present with a spectrum of clinical manifestations including abnormal uterine bleeding, pelvic pain, and reproductive complications. This article explores the epidemiology, pathophysiology, and classification of uterine fibroids, with emphasis on intramural variants, which constitute the majority of cases. Case Summary: Its a case of a 35-year-old woman from a middle socioeconomic background who attended the outpatient department at State National Homoeopathic Medical College, Lucknow, on April 4, 2025. She reported progressive menorrhagia over the past eight months, characterized by prolonged bleeding lasting 10–12 days, passage of clots, and use of more than four sanitary pads per day. Associated symptoms included dull lower abdominal pain localized to the left pelvic region, generalized body swelling, backache, and a history of transparent leucorrhoea. Ultrasonography revealed a well-defined intramural fibroid measuring 38×35 mm in the posterior uterine wall. This case underscores the clinical burden of intramural fibroids and highlights the importance of early diagnosis and individualised management and how a miasmatic treatment can bring cure without adding any adverse effects. Within 3 months of homoeopathic treatment, there was a reduction in the size of uterine fibroid with amelioration in the associated symptoms.
