Homoeopathic management of non healing ulcer: Case report

Abstract

Non-healing ulcers pose a persistent therapeutic challenge, often leading to prolonged morbidity and impaired quality of life. This case report presents the rapid resolution of a chronic, non-healing ulcer in the nates region of a 38-year-old obese female through individualized homoeopathic treatment. The patient had been suffering from a painful, suppurative ulcer for 3.5 months with minimal response to prior treatments. Associated features included unhealthy skin, round punched-out ulceration, persistent discharge, pain, indolence, aversion to company, and discouragement. Based on totality of symptoms and repertorization using the Complete Repertory and Phatak Repertory, Kali Bichromicum 30 was prescribed in repeated doses without any local application. Progressive improvement was observed from the fifth day onward, with reduction in pus formation, pain, and ulcer size. By the 25th day, the ulcer had nearly healed with healthy granulation tissue and minimal residual mark. Complete resolution without recurrence was noted by the 30th day. The therapeutic outcome was assessed using the Modified Naranjo Criteria for homoeopathy, yielding a score of 12, indicating a probable causal relationship between the remedy and clinical improvement. This case highlights the potential role of individualized homoeopathic intervention, particularly Kali Bichromicum, in the management of non-healing ulcers. Further systematic studies are warranted to explore its therapeutic scope in wound healing and chronic ulcerative conditions.
