Polymeric nanoparticles for targeted anti-diabetic drug delivery

Abstract

The polymeric nanoparticles can be used as an effective candidate for controlled delivery of anti-diabetic drugs. This innovative delivery system addresses several key deficits associated with conventional drugs for diabetes management while focusing on suitable delivery/ release profile, adverse effects, and patient adherence by ensuring constant therapeutic concentration in blood circulation. Desired polymers deliver different classes of anti-diabetic drugs encapsulated in the polymeric nanoparticles for specific delivery in the physiological environment. The literature review reveals significant gains in drug bioavailability, circulation half-life, and improved glucose homeostasis in the preclinical studies. Therefore, polymeric nanoparticles-based delivery systems show an innovative approach to overcome existing therapeutic gaps with substantial progress in diabetes management.
