A Quasi-Experimental Study to Assess the Effectiveness of Structured Teaching Program Regarding Hypertension Among Adults Residing in Raipur District

Abstract

Background: Hypertension remains a major public health concern in India. Inadequate knowledge contributes to poor disease management and complications. Objective: To assess the effectiveness of a structured teaching program on knowledge regarding hypertension among adults in Raipur district. Methods: A quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design with 60 adults (30-60 years) was conducted. A 30-item structured knowledge questionnaire was administered before and seven days after a 90-minute structured teaching program. Data were analyzed using paired t-test and chi-square test. Results: Mean pretest knowledge score was 12.45±3.21, which significantly increased to 24.78±2.89 (t=18.67, p<0.001). Post-intervention, 85% achieved good knowledge levels compared to 3.3% at baseline, showing 98.9% improvement. Conclusion: The structured teaching program was highly effective in improving hypertension knowledge. Such interventions should be integrated into community health programs.
