Composite skill index-based forecasting of state performance in the Gothia Cup 2024
Abstract
The present study aimed to forecast state-wise technical football skill performance among 18-25-year-old players who participated in the Gothia Cup National Championship 2024 (25-29 April, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh). A total of 36 male players representing six North Indian states (Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan) were assessed using a structured Football Skills Test comprising three components: dribbling, shooting, and control & passing. Mean and standard deviation values were calculated for each skill, and a Composite Skill Index (CSI) was derived to evaluate overall technical integration. Results indicated that Delhi (CSI = 48.33) and Punjab (CSI = 46.67) demonstrated the highest composite technical proficiency, followed by Uttar Pradesh (CSI = 42.78). Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan showed comparatively lower composite integration. Superior dribbling and balanced shooting and passing efficiency contributed to stronger CSI rankings. The findings suggest that multidimensional technical alignment significantly influences competitive readiness and can serve as a predictive indicator of future state-level football dominance. The 2024 performance data provide a practical framework for forecasting long-term technical supremacy and guiding structured skill development strategies.
