Synthesis and physicochemical characterization of transition metal complexes of diacetyl bis (thiosemicarbazone)
Abstract
The transition metal complexes of copper (II), cobalt (II) and nickel (II) with the Schiff base ligand diacetyl bis(thiosemicarbazone) (DATSC) are synthesized and physicochemically characterized in the present work. Elemental analysis, magnetic susceptibility, molar conductivity, infrared spectroscopy, 1H - NMR and electronic spectral data were used to characterize the ligand and complexes. The metal complexes of copper (II), cobalt (II) and nickel (II) with diacetyl bis(thiosemicarbazone) ligand exhibited octahedral stereochemistry with the molecular formula [M II(DATSC)Cl2]. The coordination through both sulphur and C=N nitrogen of the ligand with the metal ions was observed due to the tetradentate chelating character with four donor atoms (SNNS) of the ligand diacetyl bis(thiosemicarbazone). All of these complexes were observed non-electrolytic in nature based on the observed analytical data. The spectral data also revealed a 1:1 metal: ligand stoichiometric ratio in all of the metal complexes.
