Haemato-biochemical variations in dogs undergoing femur supracondylar fractures treatment by tie-cross acrylic external skeletal fixator
Abstract
Haemato-biochemical variations were evaluated in six dogs that underwent femur supracondylar fractures treatment by tie-cross acrylic external skeletal fixator (Tie-cross ESF), presented to Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, Veterinary College Hospital, Bengaluru. Haematological parameters viz., total erythrocyte count, haemoglobin, total leukocyte count and differential leukocyte count and biochemical parameters viz., serum creatinine, serum calcium, serum phosphorus, serum alanine aminotransferase and serum alkaline phosphatase were recorded pre-operatively & post-operatively on 0th, 7th, 14th, 28th, 45th and 60th days. Non-significant variations in the haematological parameters were noticed in all six cases. Leucocytosis was observed in the beginning of the study period which reduced gradually upto 60th post-operative day. Serum biochemical studies revealed non-significant variations in the serum calcium, serum phosphorus, serum creatinine and serum alanine aminotransferase. However, serum alkaline phosphatase was significantly increased in initial post-operative days, reached maximum on 28th day and later it showed gradual decrease upto 60th post-operative day.
