Advancements in ultrasound techniques for monitoring high-risk pregnancies: Evaluating diagnostic accuracy and clinical impact
Abstract
Objective: To assess the diagnostic performance and clinical relevance of Power Doppler, 3D/4D ultrasound and fetal echocardiography in high-risk pregnancies versus conventional ultrasound.Methods: A prospective observational cohort study was carried out on 200 high risk pregnant women. The diagnostic accuracy was evaluated by sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), and negative predictive value (NPV) in comparison with the gold standard tests. The clinical effects on maternal and fetal consequences were examined. Results: There was a significant improvement in the diagnostic accuracy of ultrasound when the new techniques were used compared to the standard ultrasound. Power Doppler had 82% sensitivity and 88% specificity while 3D/4D ultrasound had 78% sensitivity and 85% specificity. Fetal echocardiography was the most accurate with sensitivity of 90% and specificity of 92%. These techniques also resulted in better maternal health with lower rates of pre-eclampsia and gestational diabetes and better fetal health with higher birth weights, better Apgar scores and fewer NICU admissions.Conclusion: High-tech ultrasound methods improve the diagnostic efficacy and have a positive impact on the prognosis of high-risk pregnancies. These modalities should be incorporated into the standard prenatal care because of the positive changes in both maternal and fetal parameters, which underlines the importance of enhancing pregnancy outcomes.
