A field study on the prevalence of subclinical mastitis in crossbred dairy cows in Indore district, Madhya Pradesh

Abstract

In present study total 200 lactating crossbred cows were screened in organized and unorganized dairy farms. The overall prevalence of SCM in HF crossbred cows observed were 34.5% and 18.89%, animal wise and quarter wise respectively, in Indore district. The age wise prevalence was observed highest in cows aged between 5-7 years (47.71%). The parity wise prevalence was highest in 5th parity. The highest prevalence of SCM was recorded on right fore (RF) quarter followed by left fore (LF), right hind (RH) and least in Left hind (LH). The highest prevalence was observed in H.F. crossbreed cows with 41.72% and Jersey cows showed a comparatively lower prevalence of 15.49%. The highest prevalence occurred during early lactation (60.34%). Cows in organized farms had a prevalence of 27.11%.
