A study on efficacy of artificial induction protocols on certain parameters of the artificial induced lactation milk in unproductive dairy cattle

Abstract

The present study evaluated milk composition in hormonally induced lactation in crossbred cattle. Thirty crossbred cattle from villages of Davanagere district, Karnataka, India, were selected during February and March and divided into three groups (n = 10 each). Group I served as control, while Groups II and III consisted of repeat-breeding heifers. Animals in Groups II and III received 17β-oestradiol (0.1 mg/kg body weight) and progesterone (0.25 mg/kg body weight) intramuscularly for seven days at 12-hour intervals. Additionally, Group II received dexamethasone (20 mg/animal/day) on days 18-20, and Group III received reserpine (5 mg/animal) on days 8, 10, 12, and 14.
