Abstract

The present investigation initialed “Inheritance pattern of Powdery Mildew Disease Resistance in Vegetable cowpea (Vigna Unguiculata L. Walp.)” were conducted during Rabi 2023-24, Zaid -2024, Kharif- 2024 and Rabi -2024-25 seasons with view to screening, crossing, generation advancement, and final evaluation of six generation genetic material trial during Rabi 2024-25 for knowing the behaviour and inheritance pattern of powdery mildew disease resistance at vegetable research farm, collage of Horticulture, Banda university of Agriculture and technology-210001 under natural field conditions. The experiment is compromising of one susceptible cultivar (Kashi Gauri) and one resistant cultivars (Kashi Vishan) that showed susceptible and resistance reaction during field screening trail conducted at Rabi season 2023-24. The analysis of inheritance pattern comprising of six generations genetic materials viz., parents (P1 and P2), hybrid progeny (F1), segregating populations (F2) and their backcross populations (BC1 & BC2) obtained from the cross between parent P1 (Kashi Gauri) and parent P2 (Kashi Vishan) for three seasons revealed. Further, 0-5 disease rating system has also been used in this study to score powdery mildew disease observation based on progress of fungal growth in different plant parts of the parents (P1 and P2) hybrids progeny (F1) segregating populations (F2) and backcross populations (BC1 & BC2) population. Based on the area coverage on the leaf parts mainly they will be categorized into different groups on the basis of their PDI score value. The segregating populations (F2 population) segregate into 3:1 ratio (susceptible: resistance) indicate that the resistance is governed by recessive genes and showed the monogenic inheritance pattern. Analysis of data and finally calculated with the help of chi-square methods, found the chi square p value (χ2 p) value (1.2096E-19) is less than the tabulated value at 0.05 % level of significance. Hence these differences are highly significant and further more study is beneficiary.
