A case study of Theileria infected buffalo bull in Mhow, M.P.

Abstract

Case study was conducted on theileriosis in buffalo bull located in the Mhow, district of Madhya Pradesh. A blood were obtained from the jugular vein of an infected buffalo bull. The clinical signs observed included a temperature of 106°F, rapid pulse, dulled demeanor, depressed, rough body coat, recumbency, pale mucus membranes, and enlargement of the lymph nodes. The examination involved the analysis of Giemsa-stained, thin blood smears. It has been observed that blood samples obtained from buffalo bull that were both clinically ill and infested with ticks tested positive for the presence of Theileria piroplasm and KBB. The hemo-biochemical alterations in the Theileria-infected buffalo bull pointed to a severe case of anemia, with hemoglobin level (Hb) of 7.0 g/dl, TLC 14 (x103/cu mm), PCV 21 (%), TEC 4.3 (x106/cu mm), WBC 7.7 (x106/cu mm), LYM 43 (%), MON 5 (%), GRA 52 (%), Eosinophils 2 (%), Basophils 0 (%), MCHC 35 (gm/dl), and MCV 66 (fl). Theileria-infected buffalo bull had ALT 63.6 (IU/L), AST 154 (IU/L), serum creatinine 1.13 (mg/dl), serum bilirubin 1.8 (mg/dl), and BUN 23.38 (mg/dl). For molecular detection of Theileria species targeting the SSU rRNA gene (1098 bp) was amplified by PCR using the Theileria spp. specific published primers sequence and Buparvaquone is best drug for treatment of Theileriosis.
