Performance of cultural, physical and chemical methods for integrated weed management in Indiana mustard (Brassica juncea L.) under the foothills of Himalaya region in Dehradun (Uttarakhand)
Abstract
A field investigation was conducted at Dolphin (P.G) Institute of Biomedical and Natural Science, Manduwala, Dehradun Uttarakhand during Rabi season 2024-2025 to study the integration of integrated weed management practices on Mustard (Brassica juncea L). The treatments were laid out in Randomized Block Design with 3 replications. The experiment consists of 8 treatments with pre and post herbicides, cultural and physical practices of weed management, Paddy straw mulch @5qt/ha at 10 days + followed by 1 hand weeding, Weed free (2 hand weeding at 20 & 40 days), oxyflorafen 23.5% EC @0.20 kg (a.i)/ha post emergence, Pendimethalin 30% EC @1.00 kg (a.i)/ha pre emergence, Pendimethalin 30 EC% @ 0.8 kg (a.i)/ha pre emergence, clodinafop-15 WP%60 g/ha (PoE), Pendimethalin 30 EC%@700g (a.i)/ha pre emergence, Unweeded (control) were applied in experiment. The observation was recorded at various growth stage of crop. Some of grassy and broad weed leaves wear found during the crop season e.g Cynodon dactylon, Chenopodium album and Polygonum plebeium. The performance of cultural, physical, Pendimethalin, oxyflorafen, handweeding and Mulching practiced showed the significant effect of different weed management practices on Mustard crop. Hand weeding 24.78 q/ha and paddy straw mulch (23.68q/ha) and pendimelthalin per emergence 21.83q/ha was show effectively increase the grain yield. WCE% and WI% was higher in hand weeding (100%) followed by paddy straw (94.48%) and pre emergence herbicide (82.87%.). Effective management by IWM can be achieve higher yield and minimized yield loss by weeds, respectively.
