Efficacy of different growing media composition on growth and survivablity of Jasmine (Jasminum sambac L.) cutting

Abstract

The present investigation entitled “Efficacy of different growing media composition on growth and survivablity of Jasmine (Jasminum sambac L.) Cutting” was carried out during summer season of year 2024-25 at College of Horticulture and Research Station, Sankra, Patan, Durg (C.G.), India. The field experiment was laid out in Completely Randomized Design with ten treatments and three replications. The treatments included different growing media composition. Data observation on sprouting, shooting and rooting parameters were recorded from five randomly selected plants for each treatment in each replication. This study looked at how different growing media affect plant growth, survivablity and performance of Jasmine. All the media used helped plants grow better than the control. Among them, the treatment T6 (combination of soil + vermicompost + cocopeat 50:25:25) gave the best results in case of all parameter with the minimum number of days taken to sprouting (9.07) and days taken to 50% sprouting (11.8) as well as maximum number of sprouts (3.2, 4.63) at 45 and 60 Day After Planting, sprouting percentage (92.53%), success percentage (86.08%), maximum number of shoots per cutting (3.97, 4.37), total number of leaves per cutting (9.43, 12.56) at 45 and 60 DAP, survival percent (78.71%) at end of experiment and maximum number of roots per cutting (10.6) were found best which was followed by treatment T5 (Soil + Vermicompost + Sand 50:25:25) in respect to all parameters of Jasmine cuttings.
