Enhancing soil carbon sequestration through sustainable agronomic and land-use practices

Abstract

The rising concentration of atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO₂) and other greenhouse gases since the industrial revolution has significantly contributed to global climate change. Within the agricultural sector, soil carbon sequestration represents the most effective mitigation option, accounting for nearly 90% of the technically feasible potential. The review emphasizes soil and land-use management practices such as conservation tillage, integrated nutrient management, residue retention, biochar application, agroforestry, and diversified cropping systems that enhance soil organic carbon storage.
