Effect of different wrapping material on air layering in Ficus (Ficus benjamina L.)

Abstract

The current research titled “Effect of different wrapping material on air layering in Ficus (Ficus benjamina L.)” was undertaken with a view to analyse the best wrapping material at avenue planted Ficus plants at Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur (C.G.) premises during Rabi season (2019-20). Significant differences were observed for almost all parameters across different treatments. Observations have shown that the minimum days required for root initiation, bulk appearance of roots, length of primary roots at 30 and 45 DAL, length of secondary roots at 30 and 45 DAL, number of primary root at 30 and 45 DAL, number of secondary roots at 30 and 45 DAL, diameter of primary root, success percentage, fresh weight and dry weight of rooted layers has been observed in wrapping material (black polythene). Black polythene (wrapping material) has been significantly increases the different rooting parameters as compared to other wrapping materials and rooting media in Ficus air layers. Therefore, it may be concluded that as far as wrapping material is concerned, black polythene has been found to be superior and may be recommended for air layering of Ficus plant.
