Effects of Auxins on the growth and sprouting of stem cuttings in Indian Sarsaparilla species
Abstract
This study investigates the effects of hormonal treatments using indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) on the sprouting, growth of stem cuttings in the sarsaparilla species Hemidesmus indicus (L.) R. Br. ex-Schult. and Cryptolepis dubia (Burm.f.) M. R. Almeida. Shoot cuttings of H. indicus treated with 4000 ppm IAA exhibited 100% sprouting, then 80% in the control, with notable vigour enhancement. Similarly, stem cuttings of C. dubia treated with 2000 ppm IAA achieved a 100% sprouting rate, whereas untreated cuttings showed 70% sprouting rate. This study demonstrates a significant improvement of Sprouting in the stem cutting of Indian sarsaparilla species with IAA application. This can be used for large-scale cultivation.
