An experimental study on evaluation of antihyperglycemic potential of homoeopathic medicine Uranium nitricum 6ch, 30ch, Azadirachta indica q, 6ch in diabetes induced rats
Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is a long-standing metabolic disorder marked by elevated blood glucose levels and progressive systemic complications. Despite the availability of standard antidiabetic medications, concerns related to adverse effects and limited holistic action necessitate exploration of complementary approaches. Homoeopathy, emphasizing individualized treatment and ultra-minimal dosing, is considered a supportive modality in chronic metabolic disorders. Uranium nitricum has been described in homoeopathic literature for its action on carbohydrate metabolism and pancreatic dysfunction, while Azadirachta indica is traditionally recognized for its role in regulating metabolic imbalance. The present experimental investigation aimed to assess the antihyperglycemic efficacy of Uranium nitricum in 6CH and 30CH potencies and Azadirachta indica in Q and 6CH preparations using streptozotocin-induced diabetic Wistar albino rats. The animals were randomly allocated into seven groups comprising normal control, diabetic control, standard drug group (glibenclamide), Uranium nitricum 6CH, Uranium nitricum 30CH, Azadirachta indica Q, and Azadirachta indica 6CH. Following induction of diabetes, interventions were administered as per homoeopathic pharmacopeial guidelines. Random blood sugar levels were measured at predetermined intervals to evaluate glycemic status. A significant reduction in blood glucose levels was observed in all treatment groups when compared with diabetic controls. Among the homoeopathic preparations, Uranium nitricum 6CH and 30CH demonstrated superior antihyperglycemic activity, while Azadirachta indica Q showed appreciable improvement and Azadirachta indica 6CH exhibited a moderate effect. The findings indicate a potential antihyperglycemic role of the studied homoeopathic medicines and support their use as adjuvant therapeutic options in the comprehensive management of diabetes mellitus. Further experimental and clinical studies are warranted for validation
