A study on extent of contribution of profile characteristics on livelihood security, perception level and economic performance of pomegranate growers of National Horticulture Mission (NHM) scheme in Karnataka

Abstract

The present study was conducted to analyze the extent of contribution of profile characteristics of beneficiary pomegranate growers under National Horticulture Mission (NHM) in Karnataka. The results revealed on livelihood security that, the independent variables like management orientation, achievement motivation, decision making ability, economic motivation, socio-political participation, farming experience and scientific orientation were contributing to the livelihood security of Chikkaballapura and in Chitradurga district, the independent variables like decision making ability, mass media participation, achievement motivation and economic motivation are contributing to the livelihood security. The overall extent of contribution of profile characteristics of beneficiary pomegranate growers on livelihood security found that, the independent variables like economic motivation, farming experience, material possession, management orientation, achievement motivation and age are contributing to the livelihood security of both districts. Further, the extent of contribution of profile characteristics of beneficiary pomegranate growers on perception level found that, the independent variables like management orientation and land holding are contributing to the perception level of Chikkaballapura district and the independent variables like management orientation and land holding are contributing to the perception level of Chitradurga district farmers. The overall on perception found that, the independent variables like economic motivation, extension participation, risk orientation, extension contact, material possession and achievement motivation were contributing to the perception of both districts. Further, the independent variables like education and innovativeness are contributing to the economic performance of Chikkaballapura district farmers and the independent variables like education and credit orientation and farming experience are contributing to the economic performance of Chitradurga district farmers. The overall on economic performance found that, the independent variables like education and decision making ability are contributing to the economic performance of both districts. The findings highlighted the importance of to increase their participation and get benefit from NHM and spread of positive impact of the NHM.
