Qualitative analysis of zooplankton fauna in two perennial freshwater talabs across various seasons

Abstract

This research paper presents a qualitative study on the zooplankton fauna composition in two perennial freshwater lakes located in the Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh. The study was conducted from January to December 2024, covering three distinct seasons of the year: summer, winter, and monsoon. Sampling was performed at various locations in Govindgarh Talab and Rani Talab to analyze the qualitative nature of zooplankton species. In Govindgarh Talab, 31 different species of zooplankton were recorded, while Rani Talab exhibited 22 distinct species. These species were categorized into five groups: Protozoa, Rotifera, Cladocera, Copepoda, and Ostracoda. The diverse biodiversity of the freshwater ecosystem is vividly reflected through these zooplanktonic forms that flourish in both water bodies. These findings highlight the intricate and vibrant natural balance, forming the foundation for fish populations and sustaining the greater food chain within these aquatic environments.
