Yield, engineering characters and economics of rice (Oryza sativa L.) transplanted by machine as affected by number and age of seedlings

Abstract

An experiment in the field on “Influence of different number and age of seedlings on engineering parameters, yield and economics of rice (Oryza sativa L.) transplanted by machine” was conducted at Agricultural Research Station, Gangavathi, under the jurisdiction of University of Agricultural Sciences, Raichur, Karnataka, India, during kharif, 2012 and 2013 in black clay soil. Two years pooled data indicated that, 25 days old seedlings planting recorded significantly higher transplanting time (81.34%), lesser adjustment/repair time (5.19%), while planting of 3-4 seedlings per hill and 25 days old seedlings recorded higher grain yield (5101 and 5330 kg ha-1, respectively), gross returns (Rs. 91,141 and 95,190 ha-1, respectively), net returns (Rs. 45,178 and 49,165 ha-1, respectively) during both the year of experimentation.
