International Journal of Advanced Biochemistry Research · 2026 · Vol. 10(1) · pp. 795–799

Abstract

Betelvine (Piper betle L.) is heart-shaped deep green to pale green leaves. It is perennial important cash aromatic perennial creeper in Asia, known as "green gold" for its economic & cultural value. It is used medicinally-mukhwas (digestion, antioxidants) and recreationally in different religious and traditional functions. The popular "paan’ crop in India is important for livelihood security in rural area particularly small as well as marginal betel growers of “baree community” in Maharashtra. Though wilt complex infect the creeper out of them fusarium (Fusarium solani L.) is the identified as major constraint in production and market value of betel leaf production. A study was undertaken during four consecutive years khariff 2020 to 2024 for the screening of the nine different betelvine cultivars under shed net house condition. The experiment result as the year 2020 to 2024 Jalgaon red the local collection from Jalgaon was free from wilt disease in shed net house hot spot condition and noted as immune. Phenotypically gene pool line Jalgaon red possess red colour in its midrib, primary and secondary veins with petiole at dorsal side of leaf may due to anthocyanin. The anthocyanin pigment responsible for abiotic and biotic stress management in plants. While gene pool lines Ghanaghati (T1), Karapako (T4), Meetha cum Bangla (T6), Calcatta Bangla (T8) were found resistant against wilt disease. The ayervedic Maghai (T7) and local commercial and highly cultivated line Kapoori (T3) were moderately resistant in year 2020 and found resistant in the year 2022, 2023 against the wilt disease at shed net condition. Though same soil and variety was continue in the cultivation field place for those 2020 to 2024 years.
