Analysis of relationship between lower limb strength and agility of badminton players

Abstract

The aim of the study was to explore the correlation between Bilateral back squat and agility as well as Unilateral Rear Leg Elevated Split Squat and agility among the Manipur Badminton Association players in Manipur, India. A simple random sampling method was used to choose 18 male badminton players from the Manipur Badminton Association who have participated in the State level. They were aged between 18-24 years. 1RM test was used for Bilateral Back Squat and Unilateral Rear Leg Elevated Split Squat and Agility T Test was used for testing agility. Result: From Pearson’s correlation analysis a significant negative correlation at 0.01 level was found between Bilateral Back Squat and Agility T Test and also in the Unilateral Rear Leg Elevated Split Squat and Agility T Test, it was also found that there was a significant negative correlation at 0.01. Conclusion: It was found that there was a significant negative correlation between both Bilateral Back Squat and Agility T Test (r = -0.696, p < 0.01) as well as Unilateral Rear Leg Elevated Split Squat and Agility T Test (r = -0.597, p < 0.01). These findings indicate that greater lower limb strength is associated with better agility performance among badminton players. The results highlights the importance of incorporating both unilateral and bilateral strength training programs to enhance agility in badminton players.
