Path coefficient analysis, correlation research and genetic diversity in bitter gourd (Momordica charantia L.)

Abstract

During the 2012-13 kharif season, a field experiment was carried out at Vegetable Research Farm, Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Indore (M.P.). Twenty genotypes of bitter gourd were used in the current study to assess how well they performed for different horticultural traits. For every character, there was a strong link between the genotypes. Length of vine (0.640), number of branches per vine (0.577), number of male flowers per vine (0.594), number of female flowers per vine (0.529), number of fruits per vine (0.649), fruit length (0.724), fruit weight (0.961), number of seeds per fruit (0.360), and seed weight per fruit (0.380) all showed a significant positive correlation for yield. Additionally, the association was divided into direct and indirect effects using route coefficient analysis. Selection based on these characteristics would be more fruitful because yield was found to be directly.
