Evaluation of socio-economic factors influencing livestock rearing in Nagaur, Rajasthan

Abstract

The study was conducted in Nagaur district of Rajasthan to assess the socio-economic profile of 120 livestock farmers selected from four villages using random sampling. Data were collected on age, education, family size, experience in livestock rearing, training attended, social participation, landholding, herd size, economic motivation, extension contact, and mass media exposure. Results revealed that majority of respondents were middle-aged (68.3%), had middle level of education (69.2%), medium family size (52.5%), and medium experience in livestock rearing (69.2%). Most had not attended any training (66.7%) and showed low social participation (68.3%). Majority also had medium herd size (77.5%), medium economic motivation (61.7%), medium extension contact (55.8%), and medium mass media exposure (72.5%). The study emphasizes the need for need-based training, improved extension services, and effective use of mass media to enhance productivity and socio-economic status of livestock farmers in Nagaur.
