Characterization of landforms under Bastar Plateau Agro-climatic conditions of Chhattisgarh using high resolution ALOS-DEM data

Abstract

In this study, an attempt has been made to delineate and characterize the various landforms of Madpal watershed in hot sub-humid ecological sub-region (ESR) of Bastar Plateau in Chhattisgarh state to achieve the objectives of the study, freely available open source high resolution ALOS-DEM (Digital Elevation Modal) data of 12.5 m was utilized and analyzed for extracting the various terrain parameters like elevation, contour, slope, hillshade, drainage patters, etc and was visually interpreted based on the contour line at 15m interval and six major landform units were delineated, namely hills, undulating uplands, undulating lowlands, upper valley, valley and flood plains. The study manifest that the high resolution satellite data i.e. ALOS-DEM will be of immense help in delineation and characterization of different landforms in the Bastar Plateau regions.
