The digital dental landscape: A systematic review of 3D printing, AI, lasers, and augmented/virtual reality
Abstract
Introduction: Digital dentistry and the use of advanced technologies have revolutionized the field of oral health, optimizing treatments, improving the patient experience, and increasing economic efficiency in dental offices. Objective: Analyze the literature on Digital Dentistry and Advanced Technologies, 3D Printing in Dentistry, Artificial Intelligence in Diagnosis and Planning, Laser Dentistry, and Augmented and Virtual Reality in Dentistry. Methodology: A search was conducted in the PubMed, Google Scholar, and Scopus databases using the keywords “Digital Dentistry,” “Advanced Technologies,” “3D Printing,” and “Artificial Intelligence (AI)”. Results: 3D printing in dentistry has revolutionized the manufacture of prostheses, aligners, and biomaterials, improving precision and resistance to biofilms. Artificial intelligence has optimized diagnostic imaging, automated caries detection, and treatment planning. Laser dentistry has demonstrated benefits in whitening, endodontics, and tissue regeneration. On the other hand, augmented and virtual reality have improved treatment simulation, dental education, and digital planning in prosthodontics and orthodontics. Conclusion: New technologies in dentistry have improved the precision, personalization, and effectiveness of treatments, optimizing the manufacture of prostheses, diagnosis, and therapeutic planning. Their evolution will continue to transform dental care and professional training.
