Cancer treatment with Phytosomes: A review of herbal drug delivery
Abstract
Phytosomes, also known as herbosomes, are novel delivery systems that enhance the bioavailability and efficacy of plant-derived bioactive compounds. Composed of phospholipids and phytoconstituents, phytosomes improve the solubility, absorption, and stability of herbal extracts. This review highlights the advantages, disadvantages, characterization, preparation, and mechanisms of phytosomes, as well as their potential applications in cancer treatment and prevention. Several plant-derived compounds, including sinigrin, curcumin, green tea extract, resveratol, quercetin, and boswellia, exhibit anticancer, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties, making them promising candidates for phytosome-based therapies. The enhanced bioavailability and targeted delivery of these compounds via phytosomes may improve their therapeutic efficacy and open new avenues for cancer treatment and prevention.
