Evaluating potting mixes for optimal growth and ornamental quality of Aglaonema

Abstract

Nine potting media were tested on Aglaonema cv. Ernesto’s Favourite in a completely randomized design (3 replications). T₅ (cocopeat+ sand+ vermicompost, 2:1:1) excelled at 150 DAT, recording maximum plant height (71.36 cm), leaf number (16.00), leaf area (208.36 cm²), N (3.46%), and P (0.95%). T₅ and T₆ (cocopeat+ sand+ FYM+ vermicompost, 2:1:1:0.5) were statistically similar for leaf width, root dry weight, visual grade, and K content. Superiority of T₅ was attributed to cocopeat’s high water retention, aeration, CEC, and vermicompost’s nutrient enrichment. Results suggest cocopeat+ sand+ vermicompost (2:1:1) as the optimal medium for Aglaonema growth and quality.
