Study of the quality of drinking water of Hajipur town area, vaishali (Bihar)

Abstract

Water is a chemical substance that is essential to all known forms of life. It appears colorless to the naked eye in small quantities. It covers 71% of Earth's surface. Current estimates suggest that there are 1.4 billion cubic kilometers (330 million m3) of it available on Earth, and it exists in many forms. Water H2O is a polar inorganic compound that is at room temperature a tasteless and odorless liquid, nearly colorless .It is described as the "universal solvent" for its ability to dissolve many substances. This allows it to be the "solvent of life". It is the only common substance to exist as a solid, liquid, and gas in normal terrestrial condition. The selected factor analyzed during investigation were pH, total dissolved solids, Phosphate, iron. These properties were analyzed and compared with standard values recommended by bureau of Indian standards and world health organization. . Findings of present investigation reflected that water pH value of water was maximum 9 at Konhara Nepali temple and minimum 7 at several sampling sites. Total Dissolved Solids was maximum 990 ppm at Gandhi ashram and minimum 330ppm at Anwarpur chowk. Iron was maximum 5 ppm at Konhara Nepali temple and minimum0.3 ppm at several sites. Phosphate was maximum 1 ppm at several sites and minimum 0.25 ppm at several sites of Hajipur town area.
