Effectiveness of health education module (HEM) on prevention and management of osteoporosis among working women in the selected hospital at Chennai

Abstract

Osteoporosis is a systematic skeletal disorder characterized by compromised bone strength. It is estimated to affect 200 million women worldwide. Osteoporosis is increasing especially in pre-menopausal women between 35-50 yrs of age and has become a global health problem. The majority of young women is not consuming the recommended daily amount of calcium and is lacking sufficient osteoporosis exercise for building healthy bone. Aim and Objectives: Evaluate the Effectiveness of Health Education Module (HEM) in Prevention and Management of Osteoporosis among Working Women in Selected Hospital at Chennai Methodology: Quantitative research approach, pre-experimental one group pre-test post-test research design was used. 50 women were selected by using convenient sampling technique. The study was conducted at Deepam hospital, Chennai. Results: The pre-test mean score of knowledge was 10.32 and the post-test mean score of knowledge was 18.68. The calculated paired‘t’ test value of t=15.45 was statistically significant at p<0.001 level. Conclusion: This study concludes that the majority of the women have gained adequate knowledge in prevention and treatment of osteoporosis.
