Surgical approach to a labial mucocele in a pediatric patient: A case report

Abstract

Introduction: Mucoceles are salivary-origin cystic lesions that form due to the accumulation of mucus caused by the minor salivary glands. Although they are characterized as benign lesions, they can cause discomfort and interfere with essential functions such as speaking, swallowing, and chewing. Case report: An 11-year-old male patient presents to the clinic with an increase in volume in the lower lip area. An intraoral examination is performed. Diagnosis: A fluctuating mass with mucosal color is observed, with a presumptive diagnosis of a mucocele. Treatment: A minor surgery was performed, during which the mucocele was surgically excised. Results: The surgical intervention was successful, with complete removal of the lesion. The biopsy results confirmed the presence of a mucocele (mucous extravasation cyst). Conclusion: This case highlights the importance of early evaluation and appropriate treatment of mucoceles to prevent complications and improve the quality of life of patients.
