Bio-efficacy of newer insecticides against yellow stem borer (S. incertulas) on jeeraphool scented variety of rice
Abstract
The present experiment “Bio-efficacy of newer insecticides including Chlorantraniliprole 0.5 ml/litre, Spinetoram 1.15 ml/litre, Pymetrozin 1.0 gm/litre, Fipronil 0.4 gm/litre, Cartap-hydrochloride 2gm/litre, Flubendiamide 0.4 ml/litre, Bifenthrin 1.20 ml/litre, Indoxacarb 1.20 ml/litre and untreated control against yellow stem borer (Scripophaga incertulas Walker) on jeeraphool scented variety of rice was assessed at Raj Mohini Devi College of Agriculture and Research Station, Ambikapur during Kharif 2024. The result demonstrated that newer insecticide chlorantraniliprole proved most effective, reducing dead heart to 1.90% and white ear to 6.80%, followed by Spinetoram (2.61%DH and 6.90%WE, respectively). In all cases, untreated plots suffered significantly higher infestations, underscoring the essential role of chemical control. Chlorantraniliprole also recorded the highest grain yield of 25.15 q/ha, followed by Spinetoram (24.53 q/ha) and Flubendiamide (24.27 q/ha), compared to only 17.29 q/ha in untreated plots. Gross returns reached Rs. 1,12,507/ha under Chlorantraniliprole, with Spinetoram and Flubendiamide generating Rs. 1,08024 and Rs. 1,08013/ha, respectively, against Rs. 76,514/ha in the control. Net returns followed a similar trend, with Chlorantraniliprole achieving Rs. 70,047/ha, closely matched by Flubendiamide (Rs. 68,333/ha) and Spinetoram (Rs. 68,044/ha). The B:C ratio was highest under Flubendiamide (1:1.72) and Spinetoram (1:1.70), while Chlorantraniliprole, despite maximum yield, recorded a slightly lower ratio due to higher cultivation costs. The untreated control had the lowest profitability (B:C ratio 1:1.07).
