Evaluation of anatomic wear of single crowns made of PEEK material- An in vivo study

Abstract

Background and objectives: The purpose of this study was to assess the occlusal wear of single crowns made of polyether-ether ketone (PEEK) material. Materials and methods: A total of 26 patients (12 male and 14 female) between age group of 20 to 40 were given crowns made of PEEK material layered with composite on molar teeth. Patients were followed up for wear assessment of the occlusal anatomy at 3 months, 6months and 1 year follow up periods using superimposition of the intraoral scans. Result: During the assessment of anatomic form, it was found that two crowns had worn about 10% (7.7%). After one year P value obtained using Fisher’s test was 0.49. Conclusion: The wear shown by PEEK crowns though less, when compared with the similar studies on zirconia show slightly more wear than zirconia crowns.
