Assessment of the effectiveness of speed-strength development exercises for badminton club students at Hanoi Pedagogical University 2 (Vietnam)

Abstract

Speed-strength plays a crucial role in sports activities, enhancing the ability to maintain movement, accelerate, and effectively execute specialized techniques. The purpose of this study was to assess and compare the effectiveness of speed-strength development exercises on 41 male students of the Badminton Club at Hanoi Pedagogical University 2 (an experimental group, N=21; and a control group, N=20). The experimental program spanned 16 weeks, utilizing 20 suitable speed-strength development exercises structured according to the principle of progressively increasing training load and ensuring appropriate rest periods to optimize the ATP-CP energy system. Eight assessment criteria were used, ensuring reliability with r ranging from 0.81 to 0.94. The results demonstrated that the experimental group achieved outstanding progress in all criteria after the intervention. Accuracy in the smash test increased by 31.63% (T=12.456), and the 6 point movement speed test showed significant improvement (T=10.882). The vertical jump index increased from 53.25±4.20cm to 59.80±3.85cm (T=11.604), which was markedly better compared to the control group.
