A descriptive study to assess the health impact of online learning among the Schoolers in a selected community area, Coimbatore

Abstract

Online learning became the primary mode of education during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, significantly influencing the physical, mental, and social health of school students. This study aimed to assess the health impact of online learning among school students. A descriptive research design was adopted, and 100 school students were selected through convenient sampling. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire to assess physical strain, mental stress, and social well-being. Findings revealed that 64% of students experienced moderate to severe eye strain, 58% reported musculoskeletal discomfort, and 72% faced increased stress or anxiety related to online learning. Prolonged screen exposure, reduced physical activity, and isolation were key contributing factors. The results highlight the need for balanced screen time, ergonomic learning environments, and parental guidance to ensure the health and well-being of school students in digital education.
