Bio-efficacy of new insecticide molecules against pest complex in pomegranate

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted during 2018-2022 at Horticultural Research Station, Anantapuramu, to evaluate the bio-efficacy of a novel insecticide molecule, Cyantraniliprole 10.26% OD, against major pest complex of pomegranate, particularly thrips (Scirtothrips dorsalis) and fruit borer (Deudorix isocrates). The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with seven treatments and three replications. Results revealed that Cyantraniliprole 10.26% OD @ 0.90 ml/lit significantly reduced the mean pest population and showed comparable efficacy to the standard check Spinosad 45% SC @ 0.25 ml/lit. The pooled data (2018-2022) showed that Cyantraniliprole 10.26% OD @ 0.90 ml/lit recorded 46.99% reduction in thrips and 43.62% reduction in fruit borer incidence over untreated control, with a favourable cost-benefit ratio (1:0.78). The results indicate that Cyantraniliprole along with Spinosad can be an effective alternative to conventional insecticides for integrated pest management in pomegranate.
