International Journal of Literacy and Education · 2022 · Vol. 2(1) · pp. 84–86

Abstract

English language proficiency has become a critical factor in determining educational and professional success in the 21st century. However, in rural states like Chhattisgarh, English language teaching (ELT) faces significant barriers. This research paper explores the multifaceted challenges faced by English teachers and learners in rural schools of Chhattisgarh, India. Through a comprehensive analysis of existing literature, field-based insights, and contextual realities, the study identifies critical issues such as lack of infrastructure, shortage of trained teachers, socio-economic limitations, and cultural-linguistic barriers. The paper concludes by offering practical recommendations for improving English teaching practices in rural schools through teacher training, resource development, and policy intervention.
