Soil nutrient status of Mella duppalapally, Venkatadripalem villages in Nalgonda district
Abstract
The present soil fertility assessment was conducted across selected villages of Nalgonda district (Mella duppalapally, Venkatadripalem) to evaluate the status of key soil parameters and provide scientific recommendations for improving crop productivity. Representative soil samples were analyzed for pH, electrical conductivity (EC), organic carbon (OC) and available macronutrients (N, P and K). The results revealed that most soils of the district fall under neutral to slightly alkaline reaction, indicating favourable conditions for major crops but with potential micronutrient deficiencies in alkaline patches. EC values confirmed the soils as non-saline, suitable for all field crops. Organic carbon content was predominantly low, reflecting poor soil organic matter and limited microbial activity. Available nitrogen was largely low, while phosphorus ranged from medium to high, possibly due to regular phosphorus fertilization. Potassium levels were medium to high, indicating adequate reserves in most soils. The study highlights the need for improving soil organic matter, adopting balanced fertilization, and implementing integrated nutrient management strategies to enhance the long term fertility and sustainability of the soils in Nalgonda district.
