Students’ perceptions toward institutional facilities in veterinary education: A case study of Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University, Nagpur

Abstract

The present study examined the perceptions of students regarding various institutional facilities available at the Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University (MAFSU), Nagpur. A total of 50 final-year B.V.Sc. & A.H. students were selected through random sampling, and data were collected using a structured and pre-tested questionnaire. Findings revealed that 56 per cent of students rated the overall physical facilities of the university as average, while 42 per cent rated the library facilities as good. Over half of the respondents (52%) rated sports and cultural amenities as average, and 54 per cent felt the hostel facilities were satisfactory. Among specific indicators, instructional farms (48%), college building infrastructure (46%) and laboratories (50%) received positive evaluations. However, laundry services (52%), cleanliness in hostels (56%) and Wi-Fi/CCTV facilities (34%) were identified as weak areas needing improvement. The study concludes that while students appreciate MAFSU’s efforts to provide a supportive learning environment, the university must focus on upgrading basic amenities, ICT infrastructure, and hostel management for improved academic satisfaction and student welfare.
