The perilous triad: Diabetes mellitus, leprosy, and thalidomide-induced thromboembolism - a case of deep vein thrombosis complicated by pulmonary embolism in erythema nodosum leprosum

Abstract
This case highlights the complex relationship between longstanding multibacillary leprosy, newly developed ENL treated with thalidomide and minocycline, and the complicating factor of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM). This combination led to a troubling cascade of events, beginning with swelling in one lower leg and progressing to deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and acute pulmonary embolism (PE). The dangerous triad of DM, leprosy, and thalidomide marked by their combined effects on blood clotting, lymphatic function, and endothelial injuries unfolded quickly, stressing the importance of remaining alert in areas where these conditions are prevalent.
