Influence of stage of harvest on seed yield and quality in soybean

Abstract

A field experiment was conducted at the Agricultural Research Station, Bidar, during the Kharif seasons of 2019 and 2020 to evaluate the effect of different harvesting stages on the seed yield and quality parameters of two soybean varieties, JS-335 and DSb-21. The experiment was laid out in a factorial RCBD design with three replications. Harvesting stages were imposed as treatments at 80, 85, 90, 95, and 100 days after sowing (DAS) for both varieties, and threshing was performed manually. The results indicated that for the variety JS-335, harvesting at 85 DAS produced the highest seed yield and superior quality attributes compared to both earlier and later harvest stages. Similarly, in the variety DSb-21, harvesting at 90 DAS resulted in the maximum seed yield and improved quality parameters. These findings highlight the importance of adopting the optimum harvest stage to achieve better productivity and seed quality in soybean cultivation.
