Effect of inorganic fertilizer, FYM and bio-fertilizer on growth and yield of lentil (Lens culinaris L.) under sub tropical condition of Uttar Pradesh

Abstract

To evaluate the inorganic and biofertilizers, field experiment was conducted in farmers' fields during 2023-24 on lentil crop in Rabi season in Shravasti district with eight treatments namely control (T1), 100% RDF (T2), 75% RDF (T3), 75% RDF + bio-fertilizer (T4), 75% RDF+5 t FYM ha-1 (T5), 50% RDF + bio-fertilizer+5 t FYM ha-1 (T6), biofertilizer+5 t FYM ha-1 (T7) and 5 t FYM ha-1 (T8). The findings indicate that application of 75% RDF+5 t FYM ha-1provided higher growth and yield characteristics of lentil. These included various single and combined applications of organic, inorganic and bio-fertilizers. It was observed that application of 75% RDF+5 t FYM (T5) proved significantly superior to the control. Growth and yield characteristics traits were plant height (40.08 cm), number of branch per plant (27.68), number of pods per plant (37.32), number of seed pod-1 (2.75), test weight (33.99 g) and grain yield (17.94 quintal per hectare). Economic parameters Highest gross income (Rs. 97900 q ha-1) was associated with treatment T2 (100% RDF) and net return (Rs. 67595/ha) was also associated with treatment T6. Hence there is a need to improve the nutrient supply system in terms of integrated nutrient management involving the use of organic, inorganic fertilizers and fertilizers along with bio-fertilizers. Hence to maintain soil stability and increase the productivity of lentil in the long term, balanced and integrated use of FYM and bio-fertilizers is the best option.
