Evaluating the impact of nano-fertilizers on the growth performance of Mustard (Brassica juncea) in the Dehradun Region

Abstract

The present investigation was carried out during the Rabi season of 2024-2025 at Dev Bhoomi Uttarakhand University, Dehradun, to assess the efficacy of Nano-Urea and Nano-DAP on the growth performance of mustard (Brassica juncea L.). The experiment comprised ten treatment combinations integrating various levels of recommended doses of fertilizers (RDF) along with foliar applications of nano-fertilizers, arranged in a randomized block design (RBD) with three replications. Findings revealed that the application of 75% RDF supplemented with Nano-Urea or Nano-DAP produced significantly superior growth attributes—such as plant height, number of primary branches, and green leaf count at different phenological stages—compared to both the untreated control and the sole application of 100% RDF. The enhancement in morphological traits is attributed to the higher nutrient-use efficiency, rapid foliar absorption through stomata, and improved physiological responses facilitated by nano-formulated nutrients. Moreover, nano-fertilizer application effectively reduced the reliance on conventional chemical fertilizers without compromising plant growth. The study underscores that integrating nano-fertilizers with a reduced RDF regime offers a promising pathway for sustainable mustard cultivation, optimized nutrient management, and improved economic feasibility.
