Effect of Sulphur and Gibberellic acid on growth and yield of sesame (Sesamum indicum L.)
Abstract
The field experiment entitled, “Effect of Sulphur and Gibberellic acid on growth and yield of Sesame (Sesamum indiucum L.)’’ was conducted during Zaid season of 2025 at the Crop Research Farm, Department of Agronomy, Naini Agricultural Institute, Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences, Prayagraj (U.P.) India. The experimental soil was sandy loam in texture with pH (6.8), Organic carbon (0.436%), available Nitrogen 245.5 kg/ha, Phosphorus 28.7 kg/ha, and Potassium 217.81 kg/ha. The experiment was laid out in a Randomized Block Design (RBD) with ten treatments and replicated thrice viz., T1: 20 kg/ha Sulphur along with 50 ppm Gibberellic acid, T2: 20 kg/ha Sulphur along with 100 ppm Gibberellic acid, T3: 20 kg/ha Sulphur along with 150 ppm Gibberellic acid, T4: 25 kg/ha Sulphur along with 50 ppm Gibberellic acid, T5: 25 kg/ha Sulphur along with 100 ppm Gibberellic acid, T6: 25 kg/ha Sulphur along with 150 ppm Gibberellic acid, T7: 30 kg/ha Sulphur along with 50 ppm Gibberellic acid,T8: 30 kg/ha Sulphur along with 100 ppm Gibberellic acid, T9: 30 kg/ha Sulphur along with 150 ppm Gibberellic acid,T10: Control (RDF:- 50:40:30 kg NPK/ha). The result showed that significantly higher growth parameters viz., highest plant height (80.98 cm), plant dry weight (26.57 g) and number of branches (13.40) was recorded in (T7) with application of 30 kg/ha Sulphur along with 50 ppm Gibberellic acid. And yield attributes viz., number of capsules/plant (25.34), number of seeds/capsules (33.03), Test weight (3.47 g), seed yield (787 kg/ha), stover yield (1220 kg/ha) and maximum gross return (Rs. 90466.10/ha), net return (Rs. 60388.10/ha) and benefit cost ratio (2.01) was also recorded in (T7) and with application of 30 kg/ha Sulphur along with 50 ppm Gibberellic acid..
