A comparative analysis of effect of storage temperature and processing time on certain serum biochemical parameters in healthy crossbred cows

Abstract

The present study was carried out in Shivamogga district of Karnataka state to investigate the effect of storage temperature and time on biochemical parameters. The serum aliquots stored at-20 °C, 2-4 °C, room temperature and 38 °C and the serum was estimated for biochemical parameters such as serum glucose, creatinine, total protein, BUN, total cholesterol, calcium, ALT, AST at 30 min, 6 hrs, 12 hrs, 24 hrs and 48 hrs using standard methods and readings were recorded. The data obtained were analysed by Two-way ANOVA. The serum calcium was stable up to 24 hrs at-20 °C and 4 °C and least stable at 38 °C for 6 hrs only. The BUN was stable up to 48 hrs in all the temperatures except at 38 °C. Whereas, total cholesterol is stable up to 48 hrs at-20 °C and 4 °C. The enzymes ALT and AST were stable for only 12 hrs at 38 °C. The serum creatinine, glucose and total proteins stable up to 12 hrs only.
