Vulvar squamous cell carcinoma in a mare: A case report

Abstract

A five year old mare was presented with the history of recurrence of tumor like growth located at distal right lip of vulva at Veterinary Clinical Complex, Veterinary College, Sardarkrushinagar. The mass was rapidly grown detectable in size in a span of two to three months. When presented again, the mass was excised surgically; representative specimen was taken and processed for histopathology. Grossly the mass appeared ulcerated, bleeding cauliflower like. The histopathological examination of tissue revealed presence of variable sized multiple islands of neoplastic epithelial cells separated by dense fibrous stroma and multifocal infiltration of inflammatory cells. The neoplastic cells appeared as oval to polygonal with vesiculated and hyperchromatic nucleli. The presences of mitotic figures were also frequent. The neoplastic cells showed roughly distinct cell border. Based on histopathological examination the mass was diagnosed as moderate to poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma.
