Polymorphism study on Exon 2 and 3 of MHC class II DRA gene in Deoni Cattle

Abstract

The present study was undertaken to study polymorphism in MHC class II DRA gene of sixty Deoni cattle maintained at Instructional Livestock Farm Complex, College of Veterinary Science, Rajendranagar A 847 bp genomic region corresponding to the Exon 2 and Exon 3 of MHC class II DRA gene was digested with Taq I and Hae III restriction enzymes for polymorphism. Taq I digestion yielded five fragments of different sizes (768bp, 587bp, 184bp, 112bp, 79bp) in 12 samples and in the remaining 48 samples; it yielded three fragments (587bp, 184bp, 112bp). Hae III digestion has yielded three restriction patterns, 782 & 65bp (in 12 Deoni cattle); 552, 169, & 126bp (in 39 Deoni cattle) and 782, 552, 169, 126 & 65bp (in 9 Deoni cattle). The absence of much variation in BoLA-DRA supports its highly conserved nature and attributed to its recent separation in evolutionary process and/or possibly similar selection pressure to which the ruminants have undergone during the evolutionary process.
